John Cena Will Add Credibility to the World Title with Current Reign

The World Heavyweight Championship has had a very interesting 2013.

It had been around the waists of Big Show, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler prior to October 27. It has been the centerpiece of rivalries that have led to outstanding matches involving the likes of Christian, Rob Van Dam and Jack Swagger, all of whom are tremendously talented in-ring workers.
Yet, despite the quality of wrestling it has produced, the World Heavyweight Championship fell into a secondary title slump and never really regained the importance it carried when Sheamus and Big Show were fighting over it late in 2012.
The title has not been defended in the main event of a pay-per-view since Hell in a Cell 2010, when Kane defeated The Undertaker to retain the title, diminishing how little it was already valued.
Del Rio, for as exemplary as he has been from an in-ring standpoint this week, has struggled in the promo department and has yet to display the tools of a complete performer. He carried the title with the grace, dignity and respect of a champion, but he never made the title a true equal to the WWE Championship.
The return of John Cena and his subsequent World Heavyweight title victory at Hell in a Cell immediately elevated the championship to a level it had not seen in years.
The mere association with the top star in the industry makes the title seem that much more important. The fact that he is the most polarizing personality in World Wrestling Entertainment and elicits a reaction from every arena he enters based on presence alone (unlike Del Rio) guarantees anticipation and excitement for the title matches.
Another aspect that Cena will bring to the title is an elevation of talent.
When Del Rio, Ziggler and, to a lesser extent, Big Show and Sheamus were champion, the title picture consisted largely of Superstars on the same level fighting over the second-most important prize in WWE. Being the level of star that Cena is, he has the opportunity to elevate Superstars to his level.

WWE Possibly Planning Title vs. Title Match at WrestleMania 30? John Cena-Randy Orton for the “Face of the WWE”?

According to PWInsider, the idea to have a champion vs. champion match at WrestleMania 30 next year has come up within WWE. The idea is to have the WWE Champion take on the World Heavyweight Champion; whether this would be a Undisputed Title unification, or just a match for both remains to be seen. 

There is a current push to bring the World Heavyweight Championship back to its former glory, which is why 14-time champ John Cena is currently holding the title. If both current champions retained until April, we'd be looking at John Cena vs. Randy Orton, which could be an interesting play on Orton being called the "face of the WWE" as of late. The two have never faced off at WrestleMania in singles action; they were involved in a triple threat match along with Triple H at WrestleMania 24. 
Earlier this year, CM Punk also voiced his desire to face John Cena, who he considers to be the ultimate opponent for a championship match at WrestleMania. It's possible Punk could transition back into the WWE Championship picture before April. He is currently involved with Daniel Bryan in a budding feud with the Wyatt Family.

John Cena Will Make World Heavyweight Championship WWE's New Top Title

It's time to stop laughing at the World Heavyweight Championship because, as it stands, it's no longer a joke. 

It's not a secondary championship.  It's not the Intercontinental title of the current era.  It is no longer beneath the Diva's championship.  It's not a paper championship or even a SmackDown championship.  These tweets no longer hold any water:
As it stands, the World Heavyweight Championship is the WWE's top title.
The WWE Championship, widely considered the WWE's most important title, has been hurt by a bad string of pay-per-views where the title was vacant for the better part of two months.
In fact, had abeyance been considered a person, the 41-day span where the championship was held in (or by) abeyance would be the third-longest WWE title reign of the year.
Meanwhile, WWE's top star, John Cena, was crowned World Heavyweight Champion at Hell in a Cell.  The World Championship seems to be on the same comeback tour that he's on after being out for two months with a triceps tear.
His main talking point has been to restore value to the once secondary championship.  Cena's first tweet after winning the World Championship from Alberto Del Rio read:
In a recent interview, Cena told New Orleans'

(Defending it at WrestleMania 30) will truly put a stamp on making it the real deal. I want the WWE universe to realize that it’s not a second-tier championship. It should be treated with as much respect as the WWE title.

Raw kicked off this past Monday with the type of hot-shot title match designed to transform a belt into a championship.  John Cena's reign appeared to be short-lived as Money in the Bank winner Damien Sandow zeroed in on his surgically repaired triceps.
Sandow cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but with the help of a commercial break and Cena's always-polarizing superman comeback, the champ held on.

Cena's goal is to hold on to the World Heavyweight Championship through WrestleMania.  Should that happen, the only thing hotter than the World Heavyweight Championship would be a possibly unified WWE championship.
WWE's plan to make the World Heavyweight Championship matter is simple: have its biggest star not only carry it, but reiterate his intentions to make it an elite title both on and off camera.
Cena has emphasized the importance of WWE's big gold belt through a hot title defense, promos and newspaper interviews.  14 world championships in, it is Cena's reign as the World Champion that presently defines him.  No wrestling title could as for a bigger honor.

WWE news: John Cena talks about importance of world title

While no one in the WWE really admitted it, the world championship belt has been seen as a second tier title for a long time now compared to the WWE championship. According to prowrestling.com on Nov. 1, John Cena said that he hopes that with him defending the belt, it will receive equal respect to the WWE title.
He has a point. The main storylines have always seemed to focus on the WWE Championship, whether it was him fighting for it, CM Punk holding it for over a year, or the recent Daniel Bryan push. On the other hand, the world title has been held by Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler most recently, with neither doing much to push the title to main event status.
Now, the most popular and highest ranked superstar in the WWE, John Cena, holds the title. If fans take his comments to heart, it sounds like the WWE put the title on Cena to elevate that belt.
Of course, the world championship is the former WCW Championship, with a great history while the WWE Championship is the one that traces its lineage through the WWE, and previously the WWF, so it is clear why they put so much focus into the belt.
John Cena said that he hopes that defending the title at Wrestlemania 30 will help elevate it, but he doesn’t know who the WWE will partner him with. Cena said that his dream opponent was The Rock, and that has already happened at the past two Wrestlemania events.
